tempo run
a sustained effort at a comfortably hard pace, typically faster than a runner's normal training pace
A tempo run is a type of workout where a runner runs at a pace that is comfortably hard, typically just below the point at which the body starts to build up lactic acid in the muscles. This is the point where the muscles begin to feel tired more quickly. The goal of a tempo run is to improve the bodys ability to remove lactic acid and sustain a fast pace for longer periods. During this run, the pace should feel challenging but sustainable, allowing the runner to maintain it for 20 to 40 minutes without exhausting themselves too quickly.
